See You(Somewhere)

This video showcases fragments of urban recollections that people, including me, fail to place in our mindscapes. These fragments are discrete, out-of-context, and removed from geological, chronological, and cultural frameworks. They shape our impressions of the living environment in the process of continuous displacement and fail to connect us to real memories. Eventually, they linger as pieces in between reality and fantasy, past and present, places and non-places.

Unraveled Emotions

This striking piece features a woman reclining on a couch, embodying vulnerability and introspection. Her drained posture and heavy gaze invite viewers to explore themes of self-identity and emotional complexity. Set in a familiar domestic space, the couch suggests both comfort and isolation, while fragmented elements within the composition reflect the disjointed nature of our inner landscapes. Through a sophisticated blend of materials and techniques, this work challenges
conventional perceptions of beauty and imperfection, encouraging a deeper connection between the viewer and the subject. A thought-provoking addition, it promises to spark meaningful dialogue and resonate with audiences on multiple levels

Illusion

This piece offers a surreal landscape, where soft hills, a singular eye, and a partially obscured face merge to evoke the theme of fragmented perception. The hills rise and fall like waves, grounding the scene in a familiar yet dreamlike terrain. The isolated eye peers out, representing a watchful presence that sees yet remains unseen, inviting viewers to explore the boundaries between observation and introspection. The face, subtly woven into the landscape, suggests the melding of nature with human identity, blurring where reality ends and inner vision begins.
Through its fragmented composition, the work mirrors the fractured ways we experience reality, capturing moments of clarity amidst ambiguity. This piece invites viewers to consider the fragments of themselves hidden beneath the surface and to find meaning in the intersection of nature, identity,
and perception.

This series came out of the desire to explore the trouble I had recalling memories from past experiences. I like to equate this series as bleached memory. I am more interested in how that leads to the disruption of self, a kind of altered history of a person. There is a space between the real and the imagined and how we experience that space is at the core of this work.

Landscape Series (Landscape III and Landscape IV)

The connection between God and the land as being divine is an intrinsically American idea. God’s country, as it is also called. For me, the otherworldly and spiritual qualities that come out of America have long been a part of American history in the way that manifest destiny has its ties with the promised land ideas from the Bible. Landscape as heaven on earth, landscape as a vision of the end times, and everything in between. I think about how these connections are made and how the historical, political and cultural markers of the divine landscape are ingrained in the American landscape. Ansel Adams and the technical proficiency of high deserts and mountain ranges speak to a kind of biblical proportion of his treatment to land. I often make work about how deep seated religious beliefs bleed onto other aspects of culture, and place – as it seems – is not exempt from that kind of thinking.

Blanket Series (Blanket V and Blanket VIII)

Blankets are such a rich thing to work with. Rich in the variety of materials and textures. Rich in the context of symbol and metaphor. For me, blankets have always had a spiritual and otherworldly quality imbued onto the object itself. This idea was emphasized in my upbringing, where fervent belief systems ran riotous with zeal. Prayer over food would make it safe to eat. Prayer over travels would deem it safe as well and as a result, magical thinking permeated just about everything I had experienced. I work from those experiences and my memories to set up objects and spaces – which I see as an endless variation on a theme – and it allows me to get extremely close to the detailed visual language of those materials.

Emergent Synchrony

Emergent Synchrony is a stitched found video piece that shows an audience in applause after an opera performance. The crowd begins to clap, each person sporadically smacking their hands away. What follows is a shift from the random patterns of the individual to a more synchronous, collective clap in unison. This seems to happen without cue or direction. The sound reverberating throughout the space ebbs back towards the beginning state of individualized clapping, and so on it goes, repeating unto itself, over and over again. Collective behaviors that permeate different subsets of culture is what I tend to focus on in my work. I am most interested in the space between the individual and the collective, and where that boundary starts to break down.
